So, week 3.
Still haven’t secured anything in the line of employment. Job agents have been sniffing me out a bit though, poking here, prodding there. “Check the fine teeth on this one then” and “what a nice shiny coat”, I’d hear them say, in some freaky rendition of a horse and pony show.
I had my 1st telephone interview last Friday, which went ok, in my estimation. It was also my first every telephonic and technical interview so all things considered I guess I did alright. I beat myself up over it after the fact though, because I got 2 out of 6 questions wrong. Can’t help being such a freakin over-achiever. No really, I can’t!! No matter what I did to try and console myself, I only really snapped out of it Saturday evening. Quite pathetic I know…
Otherwise, I reckon I’m doing quite alright. Everything is still a little alien. I find myself waking up at three in the morning with an urge to jump in my car and drive to the Engen quick stop round the corner from my old apartment, for a Bracellos wrap or some shit, only to realise that that aint gonna happen.
I have also come to the very real and serious conclusion that the food is really low on nutrition here (ala my food dreams). I stuff my face to the point where I lose all dexterity and half an hour later it feels like I swallowed nothing but air. It’s like an empty, drained and lifeless sensation. I could of course chalk this up to inactivity (i.e. not working) but I dunno.
I’ll sort it out, I’m sure. Gonna have to put all this so called “healthy food” under a microscope to find out what’s potting. I suspect the UK equivalent is something quite sub par. What I really miss is the convenience and quick access to stuff that only comes after you've truly settled into your new environment. All part of the fun, right? :)
My GF and I celebrated our 14th month anniversary the other day and it was also the first time I saw snow!! EVER!! Not enough to actually start piling up or anything, but awesome none the less. It pretty much confirmed, once and for all, that I am well and truly far away from home. So to add yet another surreal twist to the day, my GF, a housemate and I made our way to an Ice Rink in Leyton (where else?! :) ).
I guess we just wanted to get out for a change and we’ve been talking about going ice skating for a while (housemate having been an Ice Hockey freak back home). I haven’t been skating since way before they tore down the one in Goodwood to build the casino, about 15 years ago, give or take. As expected though, I rocked the house in a big way!! Didn’t quite get to do my backward-triple-twist-chicks-dig-me-and-guys-wanna-be-me-backflip, but I figured I’d just feel the rink out a little this time.
Funny also, that half the world has decided that February was an excellent time to come over to London town as well! I’ve been running into stacks of old friends and acquaintances I haven’t seen or heard of for the better part of 8 years. What’s even more interesting is how our respective tastes have evolved to an extent where we share more than a handful of interests. It’s always nice catching up with old friends.
Till next time…
