Things of beauty

Posted by G-force

My early xmas present arrived yesterday, and it is glorious. And heavy! I knew what I was getting myself into though but having now having had the chance to fire some shots I can vouch that it’s very solid. Which is also its selling point. It’s no secret why these lenses are so damned expensive and solid construction and way high tech glass is part of the reason. The other parts include the fact that it’s moisture and dust tight… and chicks dig it (quite honestly, if there exists any better way to sell a product, I have yet to hear it).

Apart from the pleasing aesthetic yummieness of the lens, It delivers (with authority!!) on what it said it would, in that it allows you to capture the most astounding detail I have ever seen. Oh sure, I’ve seen other people’s work, people who also use “L” lenses. But this was a first for me. I’m looking forward to taking it for a spin this weekend. Heck, I may even share some pictures for change.

The Nintendo Wii (pronounced “wee”) is being launched today in the UK, having had its launch debut in the States about a month ago. I’ve been following this little console around since way back when it was still called the “Revolution”. I didn’t pre-order or anything and apparently the only stores that have stock left have hundreds of angry geeks queued up around the block for them. Beefcake actually had a hands-on earlier today, and he couldn’t stop giggling like a little princess. The basic premise is that the controllers (yeah, that remote thing and nun chuck) are motion sensitive, so it’s a WYSIWYG kind of thing. So for golf, you’d swing the remote like a golf club, tennis like a racket, pool like a cue, first person shooter, well, like a gun and so on and so forth. It was number 5 on some men’s magazine “Gadgets you can buy that your girlfriend will love” list, right under a 42” plasma TV. Chicks dig big TV’s.

The whole thing was designed to be accessible and intuitive and from everything I’ve read, they’ve nailed it. Anyone from the most l33t geek to a techno-phobic grandmother can pick it up and get going in no time flat. No fancy buttons to learn, no alien control system. What you see is what you get. Looking forward to picking one up when I get back from S.A. I can already picture many a drunken wii gaming sessions with the rest of the crew… might need to rearrange the living room though.

Also check out this, this and this if you’re keen on checking out more.

I digress.

Apart from taking the camera out for a spin, I’ve jumped right back into Photoshop… and it’s a very humbling experience. And when I say humbling, I mean jaw-gnashingly-fucking-irritating. It’s no mspaint. I like mspaint. Why can’t it be more like mspaint? I am committed to the learning-curve though and have seen some results already so all good, all good.

And then, there’s this:

What is it? We’ll, you’ll just have to wait and see :)

[G], out

i look forward to your call
