3rd time's the charm

Posted by G-force

Ok, This is my 3rd attempt at this stinking blog! IE seems to be really pissed off with me today. I type this long ass blog, only to have IE regurgitate and spit it out, cursing my name and damning my soul because I was seemingly trying to feed it a donut filled with glass shards.

So as I was saying, it’s awfully quiet in the shop today. Usually I’d blame it on the lethargy that’s sets in after everyone has had their mid morning caffeine hit or cus it’s Friday and they’re just dragging their asses. But I know it’s probably because of the “Other” reason. The reason that shall not be named.

I thought that this week was the perfect climate to dust off my, erm, “Backups” of Starcraft and her Super Model cousin Broodwars. To my dismay, my strategic acumen has suffered an atrophy from which it shall be difficult to recover. Orion, the ever merciless task master, took great pleasure in my demise.

Also brought back many fond memories of a few epic Warcraft II battles. Of Alfonsie the Great decimating the Human legions of Zodan and Octavo, red lights ablaze on my modest little 56K, while I skull fuck their remains and add their lifeless husks to my ever growing undead army.

Sigh. Guess the training wheels will need to come out again.

Speaking of good games, Half Life 2 is in the Hizous! Man this game rocks. I’m getting my Radeon x800Pro next week (as soon as Rectron can get their shit together), cus playing it on my current offering will simply not do.

Oh yeah, it plays like a dream though. I switched EVERYTHING on, running at 1024 x 768, best image quality, the whole shooting match. And it flies!! Only thing is, it doesn’t ooze with the same feel and atmosphere that a newer card brings to the party. Did a comparison on Beefcake’s HP Pavilion and my GOD what a rush!! I spent 20 minutes in that massive reception hall at the start just oogling the lighting effects and pixel shading.

On that note, one Leadtek 256mb GeForce FX 5600 AGP card going for a steal next week. Tell your friends…

This weekend I have been invited to go diving. I’ve been wanting to get back into it, especially cus it’s summer and the water isn’t minus 2 as usual. (well, not minus 2, but freaking cold none the less). Problem is there have been quite a few shark attacks off our coast of late, the shark chowder candidate being this 70 year old lady off the coast of Kalk Bay. Saw a really cool aerial pic of the area on the front page of Wednesday’s newspaper. They counted eleven of these suckers, averaging at about 6 meters. That’s a whole lotta fish!

I always love peoples opinions on “how to thwart a shark attack”. Punch it in the nose, yank it by it’s tail, shit like that. How about “DON’T BE IN THE FREAKING WATER!!?”

So yeah, I’d love to go diving, if only this red light labeled “Self Preservation” wasn’t flashing so vividly.

Also doesn’t help that I saw Open Water the other night. Oh, for the record: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GO SEE OPEN WATER!

I practically ripped the retina off my one eyeball in a futile attempt to curb the boredom. Imagine The Blair Witch Project, with a witch, scary parts, any sign of a Blair and good camera work. Oh yes, it is that bad. I had more fun watching Big Brother at 04:00am, when all the housemates where sleeping.

So that’s all folks. Pretty chuffed I finally got this on the whe whe whe. I’m gonna go drinking now.
