Well, another week had come and gone.
The Newquay adventure was quite fun, even though we went camping with (mostly) complete strangers, the finally tally was 12 people. I think that
The town had this weird, almost carnival vibe about it. And on queue, there where more hen and stag parties than you can shake a gerbil at. The most memorable was a crowd of about 15 guys, all dressed in banana suits (god, I want a banana suit). Didn’t take a picture, since my hands where full of Cod and Chips (Cod, battered to death, grease streaking down your chin).
It too, was delicious.
The drive up there was entertaining in its own right. Initially was very concerned that 10 people in 2 cars WITH camping gear would never make it. I present this to the contrary
Scary shit, and totally illegal I’m sure. It rained quite a bit while we where on the road too, so everything was soaked. The rest of the time we had clear skies, lots of sun and a small hint of wind. When the sun set though, all bets where off! It was quite common to defrost the zips and clear ice off your tent before you could exit.
Still on the car thing: As much as I’m surprised that I had a good weekend, it doesn’t even come close to my surprise that my tent and other gear actually got there!
At the first rest stop we made, my attempt to buy three of the cheesiest, nastiest CD's at the garage shop where quickly dashed, since all I could find was a CD rack of mostly GOOD CD’s!! No “I have a big farming implement” by the Buttfucksville brothers, no “100 Pan Flute melodies to cut yourself to” but stuff I’d actually consider buying. We ended up with “100 of the best…” 90’s, rock and Funky house albums.
The highlight had to be track 2, cd2 of the Rock album, “Danger Zone” (yeah, from the movie Top Gun) performed by Kenny Loggins. This is because earlier I insisted that the driver and I (I was riding shotgun) have call signs for the trip (4 hours there, and about 8 hours drive back!!). So when track 2 dropped, Goose and Maverick went fucking ape-shit! The whole crew spent the next hour quoting homo-erotic lines from the movie and laughing our asses off. Honestly, can’t imagine a better way to get to know people :) It set a nice tone for the rest of the weekend.
This week has been hard graft for me though. As it turned out, 2 members of my team was off on holiday, and one dreadfully ill… so guess who was left holding the can? Yeah… ALL of it. I’ve been working 12 hour days since, today is the first day where I’d actually be pulling a “regular” 8 hour day. I could use a time out.
Plans for the weekend is to head down to Hyde park and air out our (still) wet, muddy and covered in gull guano tent (Newquay is next to the ocean, remember. Don’t know WHAT exactly these gulls eat, but I suspect they’re diet must surely include whole sheep). Which is a nice opportunity to have “Newquay in the Park 2009” and get the whole crew together again for Pimms in the sun.
Oh, and get this: A while back I received this pretty letter, printed on heavy stock matte off white paper, with gold inlays and the whole shooting match. It was from “Who’s Who” publications, to inform me that I have been invited to appear in they’re annual “Who’s Who of

Feeling pretty good about that :)
