May

Posted by G-force

May is appreciation month. Appreciation and gratitude, for all the bits we totally take for granted every second of our privileged, micro waved, pre-packaged, always-on, instant gratification, spoilt little lives.

To be clear, EVERY day should be appreciation day. Just like everyday should be Valentines, and Mothers, and Fathers and brothers and sisters day.

We do get stuck though, don’t we? In out own little spheres of thought and perceived influence. I say perceived, because if we where to actively realise how little control we exert on the universe, we would probably go insane. Or, enlightened.

I’m kicking off with being thankful for my wonderful family. This includes my chosen family of friends. These fellow classmates are the ones that I choose (and have chosen me) to share this wonderful game of life with. Together we learn, we play, we fight, we disagree, we agree, we kiss, we make up, we laugh and we grow. Everything I do, everything I have would be utterly and totally meaningless to me, where it not for these Giant-friends (a term I readily borrow from just such a kind of friend).

Then I'm also thankful for "little" things. Like clean, running water (from a tap!) ...( ok, it has tons of lime scale in it, but it's drinkable non the less). Food, warm bed, clothes. Health!! NOT catching swine flu (or previous mainstream media-over hyped hysteria illness of the week). Electricity, and all the comforts that go with it. Running sewage. Waste removal. Convenience, of strolling down a non war torn city street, going down an escalator (because actually walking up and down stairs is a drag) and having the option of an entire store filled with delights from all over the world. ...and then still be picky over what I want to eat.

Cellphones. Facebook. Twitter. Google. The Internet. Mass communications, as available or disposable as you please.

We are truly, well and abso-fucking-lutely blessed.

Be thankful. Be grateful. Pay it forward.

clutch it like a cornerstone
